The short answer
Open User Settings, Account Status. If it says Adult, nothing changes for you. If it says Teen or Unconfirmed and you are 18 or older, press Confirm Age and pick a method such as a credit card, your app store age range or an on-device video selfie. Only then can you enter age-restricted servers like LUST.
What changed on 23 September 2026
Discord first announced "teen-by-default" settings on 9 February 2026 for an early-March launch, then postponed it after user backlash. The reworked version went live worldwide on 23 September 2026:
- Every account is placed in one of three age groups: Adult (18+), Teen (13 to 17) or Unconfirmed.
- Discord's estimate uses account signals such as account age, activity and the servers and games connected to the account. Discord says it does not look at messages, calls or other content.
- According to Discord, more than 90% of people are placed automatically and never see a prompt.
- Teen protections apply to teen accounts, and to unconfirmed accounts until they confirm.
The UK, Australia and Brazil already had stricter, law-driven versions; those regional rules still apply on top.
What teen and unconfirmed accounts cannot do
- Join or view age-restricted servers and age-restricted channels
- Use age-restricted app commands
- Unblur media flagged as sensitive, or change the sensitive content filters
- Change message request settings for DMs from people they may not know
- Speak on stage in servers
Everything else keeps working: your account, friends, DMs, voice calls and servers that are not age-restricted.
How to check your age group
- Open Discord and go to User Settings (the cog next to your name).
- Select Account Status.
- Your age group is shown there. It is private: other members and servers cannot see it.
Seeing "Unconfirmed" on one device and "Adult" on another? Discord had a bug in launch week that showed mismatched age groups on older app versions and blocked some mobile devices from age-restricted servers. It was fixed on 23 September; close and reopen the app and update to version 343.0 or later.
How to confirm you are 18+
Press Confirm Age on the Account Status page, or on the prompt you get when opening an age-restricted server. The available methods depend on your country and device:

Discord says it never receives your images, ID documents or card details; its vendors pass back only whether you are an adult.
Avoid age verification scams
- Discord only asks for age confirmation inside the Discord app, never by email, text or DM. Links sent to you outside the app are not from Discord.
- On LUST, our own verification happens only in a private channel inside the server. Anyone who DMs you asking for ID photos is a scammer; report them to staff.
What it means for adult servers like LUST
LUST is an age-restricted server, so Discord now only lets adult accounts in. That is a second layer of protection on top of ours. Joining works like this:
