1. Real age verification, done by people
An "I am 18" button is not verification. Look for a process where staff review a live photo with ID, or at least a live gesture selfie. It is the single strongest signal that the people inside are adults and who they say they are.
2. A clear photo policy
If a server asks for ID, it should say in writing what happens to the photos: where they are sent, who sees them, and when they are deleted. You should be allowed to cover everything except the date of birth and photo.
3. The server is marked age-restricted
Discord requires servers built around adult content to be age-restricted. A porn-focused server that is not marked as such is breaking Discord's rules and can be deleted overnight, taking your friends list and conversations with it.
4. Rules about consent and DMs
Good servers write down that you may not save, repost or share other people's pictures, may not record voice or cameras without consent, and must respect DM preferences. "Ask to DM" and "closed DMs" roles are a good sign.
5. Real activity, not just a big number
Member counts are easy to inflate. Check the online number in the invite preview and whether the general chat has recent messages from many different people.
6. Age and track record
A server that has existed for years has survived Discord's moderation and its own drama. Look at the creation date in the server info, and search for the server's name to see what people say.
7. Active moderation and anti-scam tools
Big adult servers attract bots and scammers. AutoMod, spam filters and a staff team you can reach through tickets are the difference between a community and a spam pit.
8. Something to do besides scrolling
The communities worth staying in have voice channels, events, profiles, games or confessions: reasons for people to talk to each other rather than just post and leave.
Red flags: leave if you see these
- Someone DMs you asking for ID or nude "verification" photos outside an official channel.
- Links to "free Nitro", QR codes to scan, or a site asking for your Discord login.
- Any content that looks like it could involve a minor. Leave and report it to Discord.
- No rules channel, no staff roles and no way to report anyone.
- Thousands of members but an empty chat and a handful of online users.

Discord's own Server Discovery does not list NSFW servers. Most people find them through public server listing sites such as Disboard, Discadia or top.gg, which let you filter by NSFW tags and show member counts and reviews. Use the checks above on everything you find there.
